One of my favorite things about photographing local businesses is capturing more than what a place sells. I want the photographs to show what it actually feels like to be there.
On a drive through the tiny community of Edison, Washington, I stopped at Breadfarm, an artisan bakery tucked into the heart of town. Between the overflowing flower boxes, walk-up window, baskets of handmade treats, and freshly wrapped loaves being passed across the counter, the entire place has so much character.
What caught my attention most was the interaction happening at the pickup window. Rather than simply photographing the building or products, I wanted to capture the little moments that tell the story of the business—the exchange of a loaf of bread, a conversation at the window, and the details customers notice while they're waiting.
