My experience photographing sauna and wellness spaces in Boulder, Colorado showed me something I continue to think about in my work today:

People don't just go to these places for the sauna. They go for how the experience makes them feel.

Sauna and cold-plunge culture has become about much more than heat and cold. It can be about ritual, community, nature, movement, conversation, and creating a reason to slow down.

I photographed a sauna experience in Boulder, capturing the environment and the people who brought the experience to life.

More than a Sauna

When I'm photographing a wellness space, I don't want every image to look like a real estate photograph.

Of course, beautiful photographs of the physical space matter. But a wellness brand needs something more.

It needs photographs that show:

People connecting

The energy of a group gathering

Quiet moments of restoration

The transition between heat and cold

Natural surroundings

The details that make the space unique

The emotional experience of being there

These images help potential clients understand what they're actually signing up for.

Bringing that Experience to Bellingham

My sauna photography work began in other places, including Boulder, Colorado, but I'm now based in Bellingham, Washington.

I'm particularly drawn to photographing businesses and experiences that combine wellness with the outdoors — something that feels especially natural in Bellingham.

With the San Juan Islands, Mount Baker, Chuckanut Bay, forests, lakes, and trails nearby, Bellingham has an incredible environment for brands centered around wellness, nature, adventure, and community.

I'm interested in working with local businesses that are creating experiences rather than simply selling products or services.

That includes sauna and cold-plunge studios, wellness retreats, movement studios, outdoor brands, retreats, community gatherings, and lifestyle businesses throughout Bellingham and Whatcom County.

Creating Images that Build Community

For an experience-based business, photography can become one of your most powerful ways to communicate your identity.

People want to see themselves in the experience.

They want to see the friends they'll bring.

The place they'll relax.

The ritual they'll return to.

The community they might become part of.

That's what I aim to capture.

My approach to Bellingham brand photography combines candid moments, environmental portraits, lifestyle imagery, details, and the atmosphere of the space to create a visual library that feels authentic to the people you're trying to reach.
